Dead Sea Salt Scrub: How to Use It and How Often

Last updated: October 13, 2026 · By Boaz Yadin

Use a Dead Sea salt scrub on wet skin in the shower: stir the jar, scoop about a tablespoon per arm or leg, massage in circles for 30 to 60 seconds, then rinse and pat dry. Two to three times a week suits most skin. If your skin is very dry, start once a week.

New to the Dead Sea? Our Dead Sea guide covers the salt, the mud, the water and the 26 Dead Sea minerals in one place.

What does a Dead Sea salt scrub do?

A Dead Sea salt scrub exfoliates the body: the salt crystals lift dead skin from the surface, so rough areas feel smoother after the first rinse. Most salt scrubs suspend the salt in oil, and the oil leaves a light, moisturizing layer behind as you towel off.

In the SEACRET Salt and Botanical Oil Body Scrub, Dead Sea salt is the first ingredient, carried in eight plant oils, including rosehip, sea buckthorn and sweet almond. Dead Sea salt carries 26 Dead Sea minerals, including magnesium, calcium, potassium and bromide.

How do you use a Dead Sea salt scrub, step by step?

  1. Stir the jar. The oils settle between uses and float to the top. Mix them back in with your fingers or a clean spoon.
  2. Wet your skin. A scrub works on damp skin in the shower, not on dry skin.
  3. Scoop about a tablespoon per arm or leg.
  4. Massage in circles for 30 to 60 seconds. Use lighter pressure on sensitive spots. The crystals start coarse and soften under your hands as you go.
  5. Rinse and pat dry. Skip the harsh towel rub. The oil layer is what keeps skin soft afterwards.

One practical warning: the oils make the shower floor slippery. Rinse it after you finish.

How often should you use a salt scrub?

Two to three times a week suits most skin. Using it every day can leave skin feeling tight. If your skin is very dry, start once a week and build up from there.

Your skin How often
Normal or oily Two to three times a week
Very dry Start once a week, then build up

Where should you not use a salt scrub?

  • Your face. Dead Sea salt crystals are too coarse for facial skin. Use a product made for the face, such as the SEACRET Scrubbing Mask, which has finer particles.
  • Sunburned or irritated skin. Wait until it settles.
  • Freshly broken skin, cuts or scrapes. Salt stings.

Rough elbows, knees and shins are where a salt scrub does its best work.

Salt scrub or sugar scrub?

Salt is the deeper scrub. Sugar is the gentler one. For the body, a Dead Sea salt scrub gives a stronger exfoliation. For delicate areas, a sugar scrub is kinder. The full comparison is in salt scrub vs sugar scrub, and salt and oil scrubs explains why the oil matters.

Frequently asked questions

Can you use a salt scrub before self-tanner?
Yes. Exfoliate 24 hours before applying self-tanner for even color. Do not scrub on the same day as the tan, since it lifts the color unevenly.

Do you need to moisturize after a salt and oil scrub?
Often not. The oils leave a light layer on the skin. If your skin is very dry, add a body butter after you towel off.

Why does the oil separate in the jar?
Because the salt is suspended in oil, the oil settles and floats between uses. Stir before each use.

Can you use a Dead Sea salt scrub every day?
Daily use can leave skin tight. Two to three times a week is enough for most people.
