Boaz Yadin

Last checked: October 2026 · By Boaz Yadin Use a Dead Sea mud mask on clean skin, in a thin, even layer, for 8 to 10 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water and moisturize. Once or twice a week suits oily and combination skin. Once a week or less suits normal to dry skin. New to the Dead Sea? Our Dead Sea guide covers the salt, the mud, the water and the 26 Dead Sea minerals in one place. What does a Dead Sea mud mask do? A Dead Sea mud mask lifts excess oil and buildup from the surface of the skin, so skin looks less shiny and feels clean after rinsing. Dead Sea mud is sediment from the Dead Sea shore, saturated with water that carries 26 Dead Sea minerals, including magnesium, calcium, potassium and bromide. Many mud masks add a clay such as kaolin, which absorbs oil gently. The SEACRET Mud & Charcoal Balance Mask pairs Dead Sea mud with kaolin and activated charcoal, and adds shea butter, argan and jojoba so skin does not feel tight afterwards. For more on how Dead Sea mud differs from ordinary clay, read Dead Sea mud benefits for skin. How do you use a Dead Sea mud mask, step by step? Cleanse and pat skin dry. Spread a thin, even layer. Cover the T-zone or the whole face, keeping away from the eyes and lips. On the body, the back and shoulders are the usual spots. Leave it 8 to 10 minutes. A thicker layer or a longer wait does not mean a better result. It means a drier one. Rinse with lukewarm water. Moisturize. Follow with a moisturizer on the face or a body lotion on the body while skin is still slightly damp. How often should you use a Dead Sea mud mask? How often depends on your skin: Skin type How often Oily or combination Once or twice a week Normal or dry Once a week or less Tightness or flaking after a mask is the signal to space it out. If you want a daily mud step instead, a bar like Dead Sea Mud Soap gives a short daily wash, and its lather can sit for two minutes as a quick mask on oily days. Can you use a mud mask on your body? Yes. A mud mask works on the back, chest and shoulders the same way it works on the face: thin layer, 8 to 10 minutes, rinse, then body lotion. These are areas where oil and buildup tend to collect, and a face-and-body mask covers both with one jar. What should you avoid? Retinol and exfoliating acids on the same day. Use the mask on a different evening from retinol or acid serums. The eye area and lips. The skin there is thinner and the mask can sting. Letting it go on too long. Ten minutes is enough. Past that, skin can feel tight. Skipping the patch test if you react to menthol or lavender. The Mud & Charcoal Balance Mask contains menthol at 0.03% for a cooling feel, plus lavender oil. Test on the jawline or inner arm for 24 hours first. A light chill in the first minute is normal with a menthol mask. Burning or strong stinging is not: rinse it off. Frequently asked questions How long should you leave a Dead Sea mud mask on?8 to 10 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water and follow with moisturizer. Is a Dead Sea mud mask good for oily skin?Yes. Oily and combination skin get the most from it, once or twice a week, because the mud and clay lift excess oil and leave skin looking less shiny. Can you use a mud mask every day?A mask, no. For daily mud, use a mud soap and keep the mask for once or twice a week. Should you moisturize after a mud mask?Yes. Moisturizer right after rinsing keeps skin comfortable and stops it feeling tight. Can you use a mud mask if you have sensitive skin?Patch-test first, start with a shorter time and use it less often.
